Purple Watson Bra & Nora Panties Set

I know my last post was about sewing a wearable wardrobe, and I did not include lingerie in those lists. However, I promise I whipped up this set before writing that post… We know I love the ease and simplicity of the Watson Bra.ย I also really love the details of the Nora Panties, so I made them into a set. That’s one of the things I love about sewing lingerie (and everything, really) – you can find patterns you love and play with them to create really fun sets.

I initially made the Nora Panties of this set. I had bought a bunch of knits for panty-making purposes from Blackbird Fabrics and fell in love with this dreamyย & soft purple modal jersey knit (which seems to be out of stock). Though I had been planning a pair of black panties with silver linings, but I couldn’t resist cutting into the purple first. Apparently my hip measurements are misleading when it comes to panty-making, so I made a size smaller than last time. The panties turned out perfectly! They are so comfortable and soft and, as a cherry on top, cute!

After I fell in love with the panties, I knew I had to whip up a Watson bra to match! It was the first time I had ever used the stretch stitch function on my sewing machine. I don’t know why I haven’t used it before, but it’s pretty awesome! I know it uses a lot of thread, but the seams need the stretch, and I didn’t really want to deal with serger bulk. Instead of using the standard picot elastic, I used fold-over elastic on this bra to match the panty. All in all this Watson bra is super comfy and I’m so thrilled with this set.

The purple and silver combo didn’t photograph particularly well, but I promise it’s lovely!

I also recently tried my hand at the Boylston Bra from Orange Lingerie. It came out okay, and I might be writing a blog post about it soon. Stay tuned for more bras and hopefully wearable wardrobe things!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. This panty and bra set is striking – great combination of colours .

A question on the underliing Nora pattern: have you already tried the thong-style of the panties? Can you recommend the pattern (so, are they comfy? ๐Ÿ™‚ )?

    1. Hi Mary, I haven’t tried the thong style yet. Maybe soon though because it’s an easy pattern and doesn’t take much fabric! This view is very comfy, and I really like wearing them. I’d suggest you make a test version or two, especially if you are between sizes. Hope that’s helpful! ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Thanks for your response. I always prefer the thong style because it`s the winning path to avoid vpl (i.e. with skinny jeans). So maybe you`ll give it a try and share your own experiences in a short post? ๐Ÿ™‚
